  3. This CDROM contains the SIMTEL MSDOS Archive, October 1993 Edition.  Here is a
  4. list of some important files:

  6. go.bat          Batch file that lists the readme files and runs view.exe.
  7. readme.txt      This file.
  8. view.exe        Program to view the index files, and select files to unzip.
  9. cdf.exe         Command line program for searching the index file.
  10. filename.txt    A list of all the file names in the archive.
  11. filename.zip    Zipped copy of filename.txt.
  12. index.txt       A list of all the file and descriptions in the archive.
  13. index.z         Compressed (unix) copy of index.txt.
  14. index.zip       Zipped copy of index.txt.
  15. \msdos          Directory containing the Simtel MSDOS Archive.
  16. treeinfo.ncd    Tree information for Norton's CD.
  17. unzip.exe       Program for unzipping files named *.zip.
  18. \_bbs           Directory containing support for bulletin board systems.

  22. Although you may own this disk, you do not own the programs recorded on
  23. it.  Many of the programs on this disk are shareware.  You are free to
  24. try each program for a limited amount of time.  If you are satisfied,
  25. and want to continue to use the program, you are required to register
  26. the program by sending a specified amount of money directly to the the
  27. author of the program.  In many cases the author will send you the most
  28. up to date version of the program and a printed manual.  Please check
  29. the individual files for specific information.

  32. via anonymous ftp at wsmr-simtel20.army.mil.  There are also mirror sites
  33. at wcarchive.cdrom.com and and oak.oakland.edu.

  38. The maintainers of the SIMTEL-20 archive asked us to include this

  41.     Due to the large number of files available, the SIMTEL-20 archive
  42.     maintainers cannot possibly attempt to validate the proper
  43.     operation of the various programs.  When a program bug is
  44.     reported, immediate action is taken to either correct the error or
  45.     remove the offending program from the archives.  Still, users must
  46.     understand that all archive programs are offered AS IS, and the
  47.     archive maintainers specifically disclaim any liability should
  48.     these programs malfunction or cause damage, incidental or
  49.     otherwise.  When testing ANY new software, be certain that all
  50.     information stored on disk is backed-up before you start, so that
  51.     you can recover if files are damaged or erased.  This is
  52.     particularly true if you have a hard disk, in which case
  53.     malfunctions can be spectacularly disastrous.
